Position Overview
The Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety of all swimmers and pool users at Vortex Aquatics. This position requires constant vigilance, quick response, and professional behavior to prevent accidents and handle emergencies effectively. The Lifeguard plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, clean, and enjoyable aquatic environment in alignment with Vortex standards and Aspire facility guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain constant surveillance of all pool areas to prevent accidents and identify potential hazards
- Enforce pool rules and safety regulations firmly and professionally with all facility users
- Respond immediately and effectively to all emergency situations including rescues, first aid, and CPR
- Perform water rescues using appropriate techniques and rescue equipment
- Administer first aid, CPR, and AED procedures as required until emergency services arrive
- Conduct regular safety checks of pool equipment, rescue tools, and first aid supplies
- Monitor and maintain water quality parameters, reporting any issues to the Pool Manager
- Assist with pool opening and closing procedures, ensuring all safety protocols are followed
- Document all incidents, rescues, and safety concerns in the facility logbook
- Participate in regular in-service training, drills, and emergency response exercises
- Support swimming programs by providing a safe environment for lessons and training sessions
- Communicate professionally with members, guests, coaches, and staff at all times
Qualifications & Requirements
- Valid lifeguard certification from a recognized authority (RLSS, Red Cross, or equivalent)
- Current First Aid and CPR/AED certification (adult and pediatric)
- Strong swimming ability including treading water, surface dives, and distance swimming
- Physical fitness to perform rescues and emergency procedures under pressure
- Excellent observation skills and ability to remain alert for extended periods
- Clear communication skills and ability to enforce rules with professionalism
- Ability to remain calm and make quick decisions in emergency situations
- Prior lifeguarding experience preferred but not mandatory for strong candidates
- Ability to work flexible shifts including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Proficiency in English; Arabic is an advantage
