Position Overview

The Swimming Instructor is responsible for teaching swimming skills and water safety to children and adults in the Learn-to-Swim programs. The role requires patience, clear communication, and the ability to adapt lessons to different age groups and abilities. Working under the guidance of the Swimming Academy Supervisor, the instructor ensures each swimmer progresses confidently and safely through structured levels while promoting a positive, fun learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct swimming lessons for children and adults across all skill levels, from beginners to advanced learners
  • Teach fundamental swimming skills including floating, kicking, breathing techniques, and all four competitive strokes
  • Educate participants on essential water safety rules, pool etiquette, and emergency procedures
  • Adapt lesson plans and teaching methods to suit different age groups, learning styles, and individual needs
  • Assess swimmer progress regularly and provide constructive feedback to participants and parents
  • Ensure a safe, supportive, and fun learning atmosphere that builds confidence in the water
  • Follow the Vortex Aquatics curriculum and structured level progression system
  • Maintain accurate attendance and progress records for all assigned classes
  • Communicate effectively with the Swimming Academy Supervisor regarding student progress and any concerns
  • Participate in staff training, workshops, and continuous professional development
  • Assist with program promotions, open days, and community engagement activities

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Certified swimming instructor qualification (Swim England, ASCTA, or equivalent recognized certification)
  • Minimum 1 year of experience teaching swimming to children and/or adults
  • Valid lifeguard certification and current first aid/CPR credentials
  • Strong swimming ability and technical knowledge of all strokes
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage and motivate learners of all ages
  • Patient, enthusiastic, and passionate about teaching water safety and swimming skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekdays, evenings, and weekends
  • Proficiency in English; Arabic is highly desirable
  • Experience working with children with special needs is a plus
